Maya Angelou Community Painting

During the Covid Pandemic, grab-n-go painting packs were created for the Columbia Heights community to participate in a large group painting. Packs were picked up at the library, created at home with the help of online tutorials, and then dropped back off at the library upon completion. Once all of the pieces were brought back, they were assembled to hang on display at the Columbia Heights Library as one large painting. The painting is of a quote by Maya Angelou, American poet and civil rights activist. It reads, "WE SHOULD ALL KNOW THAT DIVERSITY MAKES FOR A RICH TAPESTRY AND WE MUST UNDERSTAND THAT ALL THREADS OF THE TAPESTRY ARE EQUAL IN VALUE NO MATTER THEIR COLOR."
